Taiko in North America began in the late 1960's. One of the founding leaders of Taiko in North America is Seichi Tanaka, the leader of San Francisco Taiko Dojo. Tanaka Sensei is considered one of the pioneer taiko leaders in North America and continues to help spread taiko across the country. His teacher, Oguchi Daihachi originated "kumi daiko" or group drumming and now there are countless taiko groups around the world. We are forever grateful to Oguchi Sensei and Tanaka Sensei.
